Doing Nothing
ARST-370 Project I
This assignment was made in the namesake of Jenny Odell’s How to Do Nothing: Resisting the Attention Economy, which students were asked to read the first chapter of. In these first few pages, Odell highlights the importance of appreciating your immediate surroundings. For this project, I worked with familiar disposable objects (collected mostly from my dorm room trash bin…or pile, really) to create elevated seating pieces. This project challenged my thinking on the materiality of everyday objects and what goes into designing a chair.
*I call them model-chairs since they had to be small and only had to follow form, not function of a “chair”
